What is Rag Rugging?

Rag Rugging is a great way of taking leftover scraps of fabric and putting them to good use. They’re easy to do and are made by prodding or poking strips of fabric through burlap or linen. 

25th September: Introduction to rag rugs workshop

A great workshop for newbies as well as those who used to make rag rugs in the past and would like a refresher class. We will be using an American hook and traditional peg prodder to create loop and shaggy/proggy / proddy rug effect weaves.

You will create a small sample piece to experiment with, exploring different materials learn about keeping tension in your work. We will then move on to a piece that you can work on at your own leisure and be made into a cushion/ a bag/ wall hanging etc. You will be supplied with a peg prodder to take home, if you wish to purchase an American hook from Jacquie at cost price then you are welcome to do so.


4th December: Christmas rag rug craftsstudents christmas tree Copy

Create a Christmas themed hanging decoration such as a wreath, star, heart or Christmas tree. Suitable for all levels of experience, you will be using an American hook and traditional peg prodder to create loop and shaggy rug effect weaves.

Materials and tools will be provided, as well as instructions and information about where to find further resources etc. The peg prodder will be yours to take home if you wish to purchase an American hook from Jacquie you can do so at cost price during the workshop.

Please note that the intention of these workshops are to learn the techniques that you will need to complete your work. Everyone works at a different paces so you may not complete your work on the day but you will have the information to be able to complete it at home.
